We carefully studied their needs and also what the old house could offer us in order to give it a unique shape and style.
We kept some of the original pieces that the owners wanted to keep from the beginning.
The before and after photo of the main front shows how the arches were modified to make them uniform and higher, which is why we had to remove the existing rough stone and place it in the new arcades.
We also had to knock down walls and enlarge spaces inside the house to get more natural light. One of these large walls was connected to the outside of the porch known in the Valencian Community as “riurau”, thanks to the fact that it could be demolished we gave the entire dining room inside the “riurau” and part of the kitchen, a natural light that gives life to it.
In addition, at the owners’ choice, all the interior walls and showers were redone with microcement, except for some of the stone walls of the old house.
We also managed to conserve, deworm and treat all the wooden beams of the house; some doors and windows. We even managed to refurbish the house with the best installations such as underfloor heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electricity completely new.
In a second step, we changed the floor of the whole house, including the exterior, for a handmade terracotta floor. We renovated the four bedrooms. One of them was extended into a suite with a bathroom and private dressing room. We also renovated an office, a small living room and a larger living room to receive guests. The bathrooms were all relocated and redesigned. Keeping in mind the style we wanted to go for, we decided to place handmade stone washbasins to give uniqueness. We redistributed the kitchen in a “U” shape with an island in the centre equipped with all kinds of features and appliances, including a laundry area hidden behind the furniture.
Finally, the garden has been reconditioned to provide more space for the swimming pool with its wonderful views over the valley.
We were satisfied with the result, as we achieved a combination of contemporary materials in a traditional Mediterranean setting and construction.
